The Centre d\u2019Appui Scolaire can provide its services free of charge at the request of healthcare staff thanks to donations that the Association solicits from private foundations. If the request comes from a public, social or educational institution, the Association provides tutoring and support on a fee for service basis only.<\/p>\n<\/div>

1. CHILDREN SUFFERING FROM DISEASE<\/h2>\n<\/div>

Personalised tutoring support is available to all children:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • receiving outpatient treatment at Geneva University Hospitals (HUG)<\/li>\n
  • receiving treatment at a clinic in the canton of Geneva<\/li>\n
  • hospitalised in the paediatric ward at HUG during the summer holidays.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Nowadays, patients tend to stay less time in hospital than in the past. They are discharged more quickly and continue their treatment as outpatients. However, very often, leaving hospital does not mean that young patients can immediately go back to school on a regular basis. While they wait to return to their everyday school routines, private and tailored tuition can be a real life-saver that allows them to keep up with their schooling and studies.<\/p>\n<\/div>

    2. YOUNG ADULTS SUFFERING FROM DISEASE<\/h2>\n<\/div>

    Tailored tutoring is offered to any teenager or young adult:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • aged 16 or over, hospitalized at Geneva University Hospitals (HUG)<\/em><\/li>\n
    • hospitalised in one of Geneva\u2019s private medical institutions<\/em><\/li>\n
    • receiving outpatient treatment (HUG or private clinic) in the canton of Geneva<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      An illness can cause young patients to drop out of school or interrupt their schooling. The Centre d\u2019Appui Scolaire helps them get back on track and rediscover the pleasure and habit of studying, with the ultimate aim to facilitate their reintegration in their regular school programme.<\/p>\n<\/div>

      3. CHILDREN OF PARENTS SUFFERING FROM DISEASE<\/h2>\n<\/div>

      The Association also provides individualized tutoring support to any child of a sick parent who is experiencing difficulties at school following the medical diagnosis of the sick parent.<\/p>\n

      The diagnosis of a serious health condition may come as a great shock to children. The repeated absence of a parent due to medical treatment can negatively affect the children\u2019s school performance. At the request of the family and healthcare staff, these children can receive one-on-one support to continue the school year in the best possible conditions.<\/p>\n<\/div>
